Ofsted Report

Dear Parents

I hope you can spare some time to read the recent Ofsted report for our College. The report celebrates the hard work and support of pupils, parents, staff and governors. While emphasising there have been significant improvements, the report also identifies areas that are being addressed as part of our commitment to raising standards.

It is especially pleasing to note that the inspection was so very positive about your sons (and daughters in the sixth form).

Yours sincerely

Peter Eccles

Parental Forum

As part of developmental work at St Boniface's College we asked a representative group of parents to meet and discuss the most recent results of the Keels survey.

The ideas are to work with parents to promote partnership working and to develop the strengths of the College.  This is a list of strengths and areas of action and communication which the College is seeking to address.  All of these have been identified by parents.

What the College is doing well:-

Feedback on pupil progress and the mentoring system which gives parents a single point of entry into the school; but which    signposts to subject information and to teachers
Support given to students in subjects to enable them to make progress
Speed at which comments by parents are followed up
Good inclusivity in the school

Areas for development:-

Homework was set regularly and was staggered throughout the term with clear checks for parents
Parents were given more information and / or training about how to read the data on reports
Disruption to learning was better dealt with in the classroom
Earlier support systems were in place to support pupils at risk of failing
Pupils could deevelop more strategies for developing resilience
Assessment for learning could be fully explained

These are areas for concern for the College and steps already in place are:-

Homework is on the website under subjects and is in the process of being put onto the school virtual learning environment    (VLE).  This will take the form of topic based work and will have a series of checks for parents incorporated
The parent forum will be looking further at this issue in September and the College will look to give training to all Year 7 parents on reading data and how it is used in the College.  This will be in conjunction with the mentoring system
Disruption in classrooms is being address in a number of ways:-

1  Development of social competencies under the 'Building Learning Habits' agenda
The introduction of a mentoring system on behaviour.  This will allow all staff to understand where there is disruption and will therefore allow targeted support to take place

As part of new work around inventions across departments the Heads of Year and Curriculum Leaders will be working to develop earlier identification systems and strategies to help all pupils to meet their targets.

Strategies for developing resilience are constantly under review and this is an area the Parental Forum will be looking at in depth before Christmas.

A newsletter element of the College website is being addressed and discussed as to the information it will contain.

An assessment for learning document will be published before the mentoring day 1 November.
